Braces

The orthodontic appliance of dental braces is most commonly associated with teenagers entering their first few years of high school.

Once the permanent adult teeth have come up, it is the optimal time to get any misalignment or malocclusion (bad bite) fixed by a dentist.

The aesthetic value of the end results is one benefit that is often raised with getting dental braces, but it can also help to prevent future problems such as gum disease, cavities and trouble eating or speaking from developing.

Treatment during the adolescent years may mean less dental treatment later in life, so its best to choose to deal with the issue now before it progresses to a bigger problem.

There are a number of different styles available including coloured braces, the traditional silver, as well as the option of removable clear retainers to do the trick.

Dental braces are generally worn for 12 to 24 months to correct the teeth, though it is important to maintain a regular brushing and flossing routine, taking care to remove food from wires and other hard to reach spots.

If you are worried about any bite or tooth issues that your child may have, come into our practice for a dental check-up.
